Day 1: Rupin pass trek – Dhaula to Sewa
Altitude: 5,100 ft to 6,150 ft
Distance: 11 kms
Time: 6 hours
Difficulty: Easy terrain, gradual ascend
The first day of the Rupin pass trek is a fairly easy trek through a gradual ascent over 11 km. Enjoy a serene walk through the village of Dhaula with scenic waterfalls of Rupin in the backdrop. Day 2: Sewa to Jhaka

Gear up, it’s going to be a tough day ahead. Stretch up well and feed yourself well (Not too heavily though). Rupin pass trekking trail towards jhaka village, passes through the mixed forest of Deodar and walnut. The Rupin pass trekking trail is varying greatly in terms of the ascends and descends and the vegetations. You will reach a wooden bridge which marks you passing over to the Himachali territory. The bridge is known as ‘No man’s Place’ as it does not belong to any state. We cross the village of Gosangu, Kwar, and Jiksun, from where it’s a 1-hour journey to Jhaka village, where we camp for the night. The village looks beautiful with scenic beauty and its rich culture. One can also get an opportunity to pray in the ancient temple.
Day 3: Jhaka to Saruwas Thatch
Altitude: 8,700 ft to 11,150 ft
Distance: 6 kms
Time: 5 hours
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
We wake up to the stunning scenery of the valley. Today’s trail is fairly easy and well marked. The trekking trail to another beautiful campsite of Rupin pass trek. The total trekking distance from Jhaka to Saruwas Thatch is 6 km. Be careful of the rivulets on the way. They are plentiful and need to be crossed with support and guidance. Day 4: Saruwas Thatch to Dhanderas Thatch (Lower Waterfall)
Altitude: 11,150 ft to 11,860 ft

Time: 4 hours
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Today we walk through the most visually appealing walk of the rupin pass trek. Absolutely stunning scenery changes every now and then and that too almost abruptly. After 2 hours walk, cross the bridge then walk into the beautiful trekking trail towards Lower waterfall. Reach Dhanderas Thatch after a short climb post reaching a valley. Then we call it a day here.
Day 5: Dhanderas Thatch (Lower Waterfall Camp) to Upper Waterfall Camp
Altitude: 11,860 ft to 13,120 ft
Distance: 2 kms
Time: 3 hours
Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult (Steep Climb)
Today we embark on our first serious climb throughout the trek. The ascend is critical from an acclimatization point of view. One needs to take it slow, adapt to the place and be very self-aware of any signs of AMS. We learn how to trek in snow and to slide properly. The Rupin Pass Trek journey would take us through the most magnificent of the snow bridges encountered till now. On it, one can also see the entire Rupin valley in its full glory. A little distance beyond the bridge is our camp for the night.
Day 6: Upper Waterfall Camp to the Rupin Pass and Ronti Gad
Altitude: 13,120 ft to 15,250 ft
Distance: 10 kms
Time: 11 hours
Difficulty: Difficult (Steep Climb)
The trek to Rupin pass is a tricky one. There is an immense risk of slipping and loose stones falling from above. The Rupin Pass trekking trail is not defined at places. We will face a strenuous trek and a drastic gain in altitude. As you go higher and closer to the mountains, you can also get a chance to capture the different varieties of flowers and Himalayan animals.
Trekkers are advised to report any signs or symptoms of AMS. Once there, it’s a fun way down! We slide and hustle down a relatively easy terrain to Ronti Gad and then camp there for the night, exhausted beyond measures!
Day 7: Rupin pass trek – Ronti Gad to Sangla Kanda
Altitude: 13,420 ft to 8,800 ft
Distance: 12 kms
Time: 6 hours
Difficulty: Sharp descend
Today’s trek is a clever one. Be careful where you tread, the descend is sharp and we lose altitude pretty easily. After an exhausting Rupin pass trek, we reach Sangla Kanda where the local market is available and one could leave for Shimla in a taxi. WHAT DO YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO DO BEFORE GOING TO TREK?
Prepare your body-
- Running, Walk, Running
Running & Walking is the easiest and best for good health and trekking. Since the daunting of trekking & climbing requires long hours of public walk, ride, or drive, you must practice running or walking ablest one hour daily. Long walks during trekking make you tired those times and walk increase your fitness levels.
The benefits of running-
- Loosing of extra pounds weight
- Lower risk of heart problem
- Improve and balance blood circulation
- Increase stamina
- Walking with solder-load or weighted bag
Since trekking requires long time walks with a bag 5 kilos on your solder, a sudden weight on your shoulders. Put 5-6 kilos bag and try to walk 2-3 minutes and repeat this 10 times in 24 hours. If you have weight vest the try to run if you have not weighted vest the fill your bag with some books and wasted newspaper to weight.
- Climb stairs Up & Down
A mandatory aspect of trekking is ascending and descending trek. Ascend and descend walking is the most difficult tasks one faces during such trekking. For fitness practice, you regularly climb stairs. Regular climbing stair provides stronger muscles and better mental reflexes. Every day 5-10 minutes of stair climbing or 45 min walk or 20 min running reduces the risk of heart problem and increasing your stamina.
- Leg Exercises
Sports like football and hockey which involve running can be the best exercise. Cycling is also best exercise to boost up your muscles. You also follow leg exercises.
